ESL Program
English as a Second Language Program
All Lyford CISD campuses provide quality ESL programs that differentiate and scaffold instruction according to each student's level of English language proficiency to meet their affective, linguistic and cognitive needs. Student eligibility for the program is determined through the administration of an English language proficiency test, and parent permission is required for entrance into the program. Instruction is provided in English and embeds the English Language Proficiency Standards to integrate second language instruction within content area instruction to make content comprehensible and build academic language proficiency.
The goal of our program is to provide intensive instruction to develop proficiency in the comprehension, speaking, reading and composition of the English language. Instruction in reading/language arts is structured to ensure that the students master the required essential knowledge and skills while maintaining confidence and self-assurance within their cultural heritage.
